Trauma Therapy

You will release the pain associated with trauma through therapy and you can resume your life before the trauma.

You will be provided with education related to your specific trauma because every trauma is different and knowing about your specific one will provide you with effective tools.
You will feel validated and understood because as a survivor of trauma, I have an idea of what you’re going through.
You will feel like you can be a better version of yourself so that you don’t feel defined by the trauma.
You will feel like a survivor and empowered by your courage because you will be able to draw on your strengths to succeed.

You know that you need to feel peace but when it comes to seeking help you feel bogged down.

You didn’t always feel unsafe or on guard. It wasn’t like you to feel this angry and upset or resort to unhealthy coping strategies like drugs, alcohol, or harming yourself.

In fact, you used to feel content with your life.

Yet, somewhere along the way, you started to isolate yourself from others. You started disconnecting and felt like you were so overwhelmed with life that you’d rather be alone than rely on anyone else.
Now here you are afraid you’re never going to feel like yourself again, never going to connect with others, and never going to have meaningful relationships.
A lot of the time you feel lost and you’re not sure what your next steps are. Sometimes it seems like you’re defective. You’re sad that what used to seem like a healthy, fulfilling life has deteriorated into something you don’t recognize.
That’s not to say you thought life was always perfect. Everyone has their good days and their bad days and you’re no exception. But you never thought you’d be avoiding reminders of your trauma. What you didn’t expect was how you could blame yourself. You never predicted you’d be so self-critical. You had no idea you’d be afraid and anxious. And you certainly didn’t expect these flashbacks, lack of sleep and mood swings to keep you from feeling better.

You are a survivor of trauma who is currently experiencing discomfort and who is looking for a trauma therapist to help you heal and move on from your pain.

Please message us by emailing us at hello@aresilientjourney.com or by filling out this form, and we will answer any other questions you might have.

Intake: Our first session together will be a full hour and will allow us to get to know each other more. I will ask questions about your past medical and family history and gather details about what brings you to therapy. By the end of this session, we have an overview of where we are headed in our therapy together.

Weekly Sessions: As we meet together for our regular sessions we will start to identify your goals and match them with the therapy approach that is going to suit you best. We will examine your culture and how your upbringing has impacted various parts of your life. We look at the ways your experiences have shaped your beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors so we can explore if they serve you.

Next, we collaborate to challenge and replace the ideas you have about your life with those that are healthier and more satisfying. We can do this through traditional talk therapy or through a specific approach called EMDR.

Termination: When you have met your goals, we will work together to define when the end of therapy will be and what that will look like for you. Often this means coming to sessions less often until you feel you are ready to stop completely. At the end of our time together, I will give you a customized list of resources to continue your work including books, worksheets, and apps.
