Today we will discuss some of the alternative and/or traditional ways to supplement healing. I have personally been on a mission to heal myself via various means. And while I haven’t tried all of these methods, I have heard really good things about it from other colleagues and clients. We have created a list of popular alternative healing methods that are both natural and effective in the long run.

Trauma Informed Yoga:

Trauma-informed yoga is an approach to creating a safe and supportive space where people can learn emotional regulation through connection with the breath and body awareness. Yoga allows you to recalibrate your nervous system as you access a space between discomfort and challenge with courage and compassion.

Acupuncture:

This healing technique originated from ancient China and has been practiced around for thousands of years. Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles into different parts of your body. This is used to stimulate nerves and muscles which may release pain-relieving chemicals. It is a helpful tool when you are wanting to relieve chronic pain and symptoms of depression and anxiety. It allows blocked energy to open up and heal the body.

Healing your gut:

Our gut health influences everything from our weight, to our mood, to the root of our depression, to ultimately digestive issues. Healing your gut allows you to improve your mental and physical health. Many diseases can be traced back to the imbalance of the gut, the best way to move forward with your gut health is to learn what is upsetting your gut health. One way to do this is by working with nutritionists, dieticians, and/or medical providers to complete testing to determine your gut health status and then give the recommended supplements.

Music Therapy

Music therapy uses music and sound to help express emotions and improve emotional and physical wellbeing. You don’t have the musically talented to do music therapy, it can help you relax and improve your emotional and physical wellbeing. Music therapy can be a safe place for people to explore fear, anxiety, anger, and a range of emotions. Listening to “high frequency music” found on youtube or your favorite music streaming apps. For example, I love Belleruth Naparstek, who is  a psychotherapist who launched the Health Journeys guided imagery audio series that targets specific issues like PTSD, depression, sleep issues, and anxiety to name a few.

Equine therapy

This therapy involves working with horses and a trained therapist that will facilitate healing in an arena. Some of the issues that can be assisted with by working with horses include emotional awareness, impulse control, and trust and empathy.
